Considered spaces and the objects within them
CAB ROTO is a design studio in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. Since 2013, we’ve worked on hospitality venues, commercial interiors, buildings and tourism precincts across Queensland and further afield. Sometimes the project is a whole site. Sometimes it’s a light fitting.
We’re interested in how things work. What makes people walk into a venue, where the staff get stuck, what a tired building could become. These questions shape the design more than the materials and finishes.
Our background is design, construction and making. We’re comfortable getting into the details. Budgets, approvals, awkward existing conditions, bespoke joinery, how to put the thing together. We’re all in, from the site inspection to the drawings, decisions and the custom pieces that bring it to life.
Precincts
An overlooked corner, an empty tenancy, a building that’s had a few lives already. We help developers work out what comes next. Our tourism and precinct work includes The Wharf Mooloolaba and The Big Pineapple, bringing together masterplanning, surveys, BIM modelling, leasing layouts and planning support. Viable ideas, in manageable stages.
Buildings
A building has a long working life ahead of it. We design with that in mind: how it’s built, what it costs to run and how well it will perform as it ages. We provide concepts and feasibility studies through to approvals and construction documentation for commercial and selected residential projects.
Interiors
To us, hospitality design is everything from the mood of the dining space to the dish dump and cookline. It all matters when service is flat out. We apply the same attention to retail, workplace and medical interiors, designing around the people using the space and the work happening inside it.
Objects & Fabrication
Some projects need something you can’t order from a catalogue. We design and make custom furniture, lighting and art installations, drawing from years of hands-on experience with timber, textiles, metal, prototyping and CAD/CAM manufacturing. Having a workshop changes how you draw. You spend more time thinking about the joins.
