CAB ROTO was engaged to conceptualise and deliver a striking interior for RB Dining, a sophisticated restaurant and lounge bar situated within The Wharf precinct. Collaborating with seasoned restaurateurs Tony Kelly, Elyza Molloy and Mitch Smith, we developed a design that balances elegance with an alluring sense of depth and contrast.
Our full interior design service encompassed spatial planning, BIM modelling, construction documentation, and consultant coordination, ensuring a seamless process from concept to completion.
…Kristen’s creative energy is inspiring, and he always brings an abundance of ideas to the table. I cannot recommend Kristen and the Cab Roto team highly enough and look forward to working with them again on future projects…

The aesthetic narrative of the space is defined by moody, near-black surfaces juxtaposed against warm, diffused lighting, creating a refined yet inviting atmosphere. Textural diversity plays a key role, with bespoke joinery, furniture and lighting fixtures designed specifically for the venue. These elements sit harmoniously within a framework of exposed trusses and retained services, reinforcing the dialogue between raw and polished finishes.
A distinct Asian influence permeates the venue, achieved through the considered design of joinery and built elements. The use of translucent screens and blackened timber enhances the sense of intimacy, layering depth and intrigue within the space. The super-dark interior heightens the sophisticated, exclusive feel and creates a visually dramatic contrast against the softly illuminated surfaces.
Attention to detail was paramount, from the selection of finishes and furnishings to the design of custom metal fabrication, acoustic treatments and feature lighting. The bar and back-of-house areas were designed with the kitchen team to enhance both functionality and service efficiency.
Our collaboration with Farrago Interiors was instrumental in bringing the vision to life, ensuring high-quality execution across construction, joinery and trade management.
Through renderings and flythroughs, we provided a tangible preview of the design intent, facilitating a smooth transition from concept to reality. The result is an atmospheric dining and lounge experience that not only elevates the hospitality offering at The Wharf but also sets a benchmark for contemporary restaurant design in the region.
