CAB ROTO, working with project managers EL Development Services transformed a century-old brick-and-timber building—once a horse stable, mechanics garage, and pizza restaurant—into a state-of-the-art medical imaging clinic.
Spanning more than 500m², the new facility houses advanced diagnostic equipment, including MRI, CT, two X-ray machines, pathology, three ultrasound rooms, and BMD, along with reception, sub-wait areas, work-up rooms, reporting suites, administration, and staff facilities.
Working within an existing hospitality fit-out, our approach prioritised efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and seamless integration with the existing structure.
Key design considerations:
Preserving and repurposing: Retained large portions of the existing fit-out that were in good condition, reducing rework, minimising time on site, cutting costs, and lowering environmental impact.
Performance solutions: Developed strategies to address accessibility and building code compliance, ensuring a streamlined approval process.
Optimising structural solutions: Worked with project managers and engineers to incorporate cost-effective structural modifications hidden within the walls, avoiding the need for costly structural additions.
Equipment installation path studies: Ensured maximum floor area utilisation while aligning new structural walls with existing columns and equipment footprints, servicing and replacement requirements.
Specialised joinery solutions: Worked with Farrago Interiors to design high-impact, cost-effective joinery—delivering detail where in the reception and waiting areas while keeping back-of-house elements practical and economical.
Power and functionality: Coordinated closely with the practice manager, electrical engineer, Cushway Blackford, and JMB Electrical to meet high power demands while maintaining a functional, cost-effective installation.
This project seamlessly integrates cutting-edge medical technology into an adaptive reuse framework—delivering a modern radiology clinic fit out without unnecessary complexity or cost.
